      Asteroids are chunks of rock or metal, orbiting the Sun. There are loads of them between mars and jupiter. Some times they get caught in Jupiter’s gravity, and get flung toward Earth. Thanks a lot, Jupiter… One rare type of asteroid is the “carboniferous chondrite”, which is made of mostly water and carbon.
