The earth is round because a sphere is the most efficient way to pack all the rock and dirt into a small space. Gravity pulls everything inward in all directions, and it all smoshes together into a round ball.

The Earth is not exactly round, it is what is called an oblate “spheroid”. Which is a fancy word for a round thing someone squashed at its poles (top and bottom) and so it is a bit swollen at the equator (in the middle)
